French Riviera property boomed in 2015

Wednesday 27th January 2016

Enquiries into luxury property on the French Riviera were up by 60% last year compared to figures from 2014, reports Home Hunts.

Overseas buyers have chosen to purchase property in this in-demand area due to reduced property prices, favourable currency pairings and lower mortgage rates. This has led to an increase in viewings, offers and sales.

The luxury property market first picked up in 2014, but Tim Swannie, Director of Home Hunts, commented that 2015 “it is the busiest we have seen since starting the company back in 2004.”

Land is restricted by planning laws on the French Riviera, which means available properties here are few and far between, and therefore highly sought-after.

St Tropez in particular has grown in popularity, Swannie comments: “With a small, exclusive population of 4,500, almost two-thirds of houses here are holiday homes and some of the most coveted property on the French Riviera.”

Mougins and Villefranche Sur Mer are also popular locations in the area, as is Vance, reports Home Hunts, with its highly sought-after views.

Vence is also popular with overseas buyers “not only because of the views and the climate, but the areas has a vibrant atmosphere all year round, wonderful restaurants and amenities and is very well placed to access the coast and Nice airport.”
